Chapter 11 - The Wedding Grant Did Not Attend

Adrian and I married in Maine.

Sixty guests.

Ocean.

No press.

Grant was invited.

He declined.

His note said:

This day should belong entirely to the life you are choosing. I’m grateful you invited me. I’m more grateful you don’t need me there to prove anything is healed.

I respected that.

Sloane was not invited.

Appropriate.

She sent blue flowers.

Vivienne served as maid of honor and complained about everything.

Adelaide attended.

That surprised some relatives.

She cried through vows.

My vows:

“I promise never to mistake being needed for being loved.”

Adrian’s:

“I promise never to confuse closeness with entitlement.”

We kissed.

No scandal.

No hidden document.

No one livestreaming.

At dinner, Vivienne stood.

“I have one request. If either of you forms an LLC named after the wedding month, I am resigning from friendship.”

Everyone laughed.

I did too.

May you like

The joke no longer hurt.

That felt like healing.
