Chapter 13 - One Final Enemy

Victor Romano was awaiting trial.
Julian had accepted a plea agreement.
The Moretti wars seemed finished.
Then Marcus disappeared.
Dante knew immediately something was wrong.
Marcus had protected him for fifteen years.
He would never vanish voluntarily.
A package arrived.
Inside was Marcus’s watch.
And a photograph.
Julian.
He had escaped federal transport.
Dante stared at the image.
His own brother had become the final ghost of their father’s legacy.
Julian demanded money and passage overseas.
But what he truly wanted was Dante’s humiliation.
“You got everything,” Julian said during a phone call. “Father. Company. Respect.”
“You think I feel lucky?”
“You always were.”
Dante looked at Cara and Noah.
Maybe Julian was right.
Not about childhood.
About now.
Dante had something money could never reproduce.
“Where's Marcus?”
“Bring fifty million.”
“I don't have fifty million.”
Julian laughed.
“Then sell something.”
Dante did.
He sold his last private estate.
The money was prepared.
But Cara noticed the location Julian selected.
The same mountain bridge where Dante had crashed.
“He wants you back there.”
Dante nodded.
“Why?”
“To finish the story.”
Cara’s stomach tightened.
“No.”
Dante kissed her forehead.
“I have to get Marcus.”
“Then I'm coming.”
“Absolutely not.”
Cara stared at him.
“Have you learned nothing?”
May you like
Apparently, he had.
Because ten minutes later they were both in the car.
