Chapter 7 - The Heart's DiagnosisJulian walked through the foyer, tossing a tennis ball for Barnaby, who wagged his tail furiously across the hardwood.

We sat on the rooftop conservatory terrace, watching the golden autumn leaves drift over the city skyline.
"How is the clinical trial progressing, Emily?" Julian asked gently, handing me my coffee.
"We have eighty-five percent tumor regression in the pediatric cohort, Julian," I replied, my eyes shining with radiant joy. "Three children who were given two months to live are walking home with their families this Friday."
Julian looked at me with deep, unhurried reverence.
"You have changed the future of pediatric oncology, Emily," Julian murmured softly, his hand resting gently over mine on the wrought-iron table. "You turned years of loneliness and cruelty into an ocean of healing for this world."
"I had a brilliant partner by my side, Julian," I said, meeting his warm gaze.
Julian leaned closer, his touch steady, safe, and honest.
"I don't just want to be your surgical partner, Emily," Julian whispered, his voice thick with raw, tender vulnerability. "I have loved you since the day you walked into the trauma unit and saved three lives without asking for a single word of praise. You are my inspiration, my best friend, and the only woman who holds my heart."
A sweet, restorative warmth washed through my soul, washing away the last lingering shadows of my past.

"I love you too, Julian," I whispered.
Julian leaned forward, pressing his lips against mine in a gentle, breathtaking kiss beneath the autumn sun.
