Chapter 11 - Naomi Left William
For three weeks.
It happened after William bought her building.
Without telling her.
He believed the landlord intended raising rent.
So William purchased the property.
Problem solved.
Naomi found out.
Problem created.
“You bought my apartment building?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Stability.”
“You own my home.”
“I own the building.”
“That is the same problem with richer vocabulary.”
She packed.
William stared.
“You’re leaving?”
“Yes.”
“Because I helped?”
“Because you made my decision for me.”
He finally understood.
Power could become another form of fear.
Naomi moved out.
The twins remained angry with him.
June removed the SUPER LEGS sticker.
That hurt most.
William sold the building.
To a tenant cooperative.
At a loss.
Then sent Naomi one message.
I fixed the thing I shouldn’t have done. I won’t ask you to come back until you choose to.
No flowers.
No gifts.
No pressure.
Three weeks later, Naomi appeared at rehabilitation.
William was practicing steps with braces.
She watched.
“Better.”
He smiled.
“Walking?”
“Listening.”
She replaced the sticker.
He nearly cried.
