Chapter 7 - The Freeze on Harveyâs AccountsHarvey fell onto his knees on the cedar deck, clutching at his head, weeping tears of pure, pathetic desperation.

âMom! Please!â Harvey sobbed, looking up at me with red, terrified eyes. âPlease don't do this to me! I was just trying to save my business! The tech company is going under! I needed the loan to pay off my debts!â
âYou didn't just try to save your business, Harvey,â I said, my voice rich with deep, unshakeable sorrow. âYou stood by while your wife introduced me as the caretaker to twenty-six people. You laughed when she dumped the food I cooked for three days into the dog's bowl.â
âI was stupid, Mom! Iâm sorry! Iâll make her apologize!â Harvey cried, grabbing at my coat hem.
I stepped back, pulling my coat out of his reach.
âYou didn't care about my feelings when you thought you had stolen my land, Harvey,â I said gently. âYou only care now because you got caught.â
Detective Hill stepped forward, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around Harveyâs wrists.

âHarvey Hayes, you are under arrest for felony identity theft, grand forgery, and commercial loan fraud,â Detective Hill declared, lifting Harvey to his feet.
Bethany shrieked as a second deputy grabbed her arm, escorting her toward the patrol car as she screamed obscenities at her husband for dragging her into a forged loan scheme!
