Chapter 6 - The Eviction of the GuesthouseDetective Marcus Hill and two uniformed deputies walked up the stone steps onto the patio, badges shining under the overhead lanterns.

âGloria Hayes?â Detective Hill asked, tipping his hat politely to me.
âGood evening, Detective,â I replied calmly. âThank you for your prompt arrival.â
Bethany rushed toward the officers, pointing a shaking, manicured finger at me. âOfficers! Arrest this woman! She is trespassing on our property and disrupting a private corporate event!â
Detective Hill looked down at Bethany with icy, professional disdain. âMa'am, we have the certified land registry records right here. Mrs. Gloria Hayes owns this entire property. In fact, you and your husband are currently occupying the guesthouse on a temporary verbal agreement.â

âMr. Harvey Hayes and Mrs. Bethany Hayes,â Detective Hill announced loudly for the entire crowd to hear. âYou are being served with an emergency forty-eight-hour Notice of Eviction issued by the Municipal Court for fraud, unauthorized commercial activity, and elder financial abuse.â
Bethany gasped, her jaw dropping in utter horror as the investors she had spent weeks trying to impress watched her being formally evicted from the estate!

âEviction?!â Bethany shrieked, her voice cracking into a high-pitched wail. âYou can't evict us! Where are we supposed to live?!â
âI suggest you find a motel, Bethany,â I said softly, looking her dead in the eye. âSince the 'hired help' is officially closing the estate.â
