Chapter 5 - THE BREAKING POINT

The agony reached a peak that left me lying on the floor in a puddle of tears and exhaustion. I looked at the security camera mounted in the corner of the ceiling—the small, blinking red eye that watched over the hotel’s inventory. I remembered that the hotel security systems were connected to the manager’s office.
With the last of my strength, I dragged myself toward the camera, waving my arms and shouting into the small microphone I hoped was built into the unit. “HELP! I’m in the storage room! I’m in labor, I’m being held against my will!” I repeated it over and over, praying that someone in the security booth was watching the monitor, hoping that my desperation would reach someone who hadn't been poisoned by my mother’s obsession with appearances.
