Chapter 3 - ADRIAN’S SEARCH

Downstairs, Adrian sat in the third row, his eyes scanning the bridal party aisle. When he saw Lila emerge, he frowned. Nora wasn't there. He turned to his left and right, his unease growing by the second. He knew Nora better than anyone; she wasn't the type to be late, especially when she was heavily pregnant.
He leaned over to whisper to my father, “Where is Nora? She was supposed to walk down the aisle.” My father looked confused, clearly having been told a lie by my mother earlier. “I thought she was backstage with your mother,” he muttered. Adrian didn't wait. He slipped out of the row, his heart hammering against his ribs as he began to pace the back of the ballroom, his gaze darting toward the service hallways, sensing that something had gone terribly wrong.
