Chapter 12 - LILA’S RECKONING
Lila visited me at the hospital two days later. She looked small, frightened, and for the first time, like the sister I had once known before Mom turned us into rivals. She apologized for her silence, admitting she had been trained by Mom to turn a blind eye to my treatment to preserve her own favor.
I listened to her, but I kept the boundaries firm. I told her that while I forgave her for her youth and her indoctrination, I would not be the target of the family’s dysfunction anymore. Our relationship would have to be rebuilt from the ground up, with honesty and equal respect—or it wouldn't be rebuilt at all.
