Chapter 12 - THE BOARDROOM RECKONING

With Vivian remanded into federal custody and her offshore assets frozen by judicial order, the Sterling Family Foundation board held an emergency session the following Tuesday in the corporate boardroom of Moretti & Associates. Seated at the head of the polished mahogany table weren’t corrupt family loyalists, but federal investigators, independent auditors, and myself—appointed as the interim compliance trustee to restructure the foundation.
Holt sat quietly in the corner of the room, looking broken and defeated, realizing too late that his mother’s toxic control had cost him everything he ever truly valued. When he tried to catch my eye, I didn't offer anger or pity; I simply turned my attention back to the financial ledgers, treating him with the exact professional detachment he had once directed toward my boundaries.
