Before Vivian could recover her footing, the distant wail of sirens pierced the quiet Greenwich air. Not local estate security—federal marshals and state police cruisers swept up the circular driveway, their emergency lights flashing against the white fountain. Two federal agents in sharp suits stepped out of the lead vehicle, marching briskly up the stone steps toward the altar.
The lead agent stopped directly in front of Vivian, pulling a folded document from his breast pocket. “Vivian Sterling? You are hereby served with an emergency federal asset-freeze order and a warrant for your arrest on charges of wire fraud, grand larceny, and conspiracy to embezzle charitable funds.” Gasps erupted from the wedding guests as cold steel handcuffs were snapped around Vivian’s wrists, ending her reign of terror in front of the very high-society peers she had spent decades trying to impress.
