Chapter 5 - Caught in the CrossfireTheir secret sanctuary was shattered two weeks later.

Head Nurse Margaret Vance—a strict, rules-obsessed supervisor—conducted an unscheduled midnight audit of the neurosurgery floor.

When Margaret pushed open the door to Room 412 at 2:30 a.m., she found Harper sitting close to Rowan, holding his hands over the vibration board while unauthorized music equipment lay on the bedside table.

“Nurse Morris!” Margaret’s sharp voice cut through the air. “What is the meaning of this?”

Harper stood up instantly, putting herself between Margaret and Rowan. “Nurse Vance, this is part of Mr. Cade’s neurological therapy—”

“Therapy?” Margaret snapped, inspecting the keyboard and headphones. “This is a severe violation of hospital code, sanitation protocols, and patient safety! Unapproved electronic devices in a high-risk neuro ward!”

Rowan spoke up from his wheelchair, his voice filled with anger. “She was helping me survive! Don't punish her for having humanity!”

“You are a patient, Mr. Cade. You do not dictate hospital policy,” Margaret said cold-heartedly. She turned to Harper with a stern glare. “Nurse Morris, report to the Chief of Medicine’s office at eight o'clock tomorrow morning. You are suspended pending a formal disciplinary review.”
