Chapter 8 - Mark Lost the Hamilton Name

Hamilton Crest rebranded five years after Margaret’s death following a merger with another logistics technology company. The new board chose Crestline Systems.
Mark objected initially.
“My father built the Hamilton name.”
Melissa responded, “Mom saved it.”
I said nothing.
Employees voted strongly in favor because the new identity reflected a company no longer controlled by one family.
Mark eventually supported the change.
At the ceremony removing the old Hamilton Crest sign, reporters asked whether he felt erased.
He paused.
Then answered, “A company is not a monument to my surname.”
Margaret would have fainted from satisfaction.
I watched online.
Did not attend.
Some moments belonged to him.
Later he texted:
Mom would say I learned that ten years late.
I replied:
She’d say twenty.
He sent a laughing emoji.
That was our relationship now.
