Chapter 9 - The Vow on the Lake

On a magnificent, sun-drenched Saturday in June, our wedding took place on the lakeside lawn of our Wisconsin estate.
Arbors of cascading white roses, blooming hydrangeas, and soft lavender framed the cedar altar overlooking the sparkling blue water.
Over two hundred of our closest friends, colleagues, foundation doctors, and Arthur Vance sat beneath the clear azure sky.
Eight-year-old Emma served as the maid of honor, wearing a beautiful blush-pink silk dress, holding a basket of white petals, her face glowing with radiant, unburdened joy.
I stood at the altar in an immaculate black tuxedo, my eyes filling with tears of profound adoration as Lauren walked down the grass aisle on the arm of Arthur Vance.
Lauren wore a breathtaking, custom-tailored ivory lace gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves and a flowing cathedral-length veil that danced in the lake breeze.
When Arthur placed Lauren’s hand into mine, the entire world seemed to fade into reverent silence.
I lifted her veil with infinite gentleness.
"Lauren," I spoke during my vows, my voice clear, steady, and resonant with truth. "You taught me that true strength is not found in steel or stone, but in the courage to love and protect without fear. I vow to honor you, cherish you, stand as your shield, and walk beside you through every season of our lives, for all eternity."

"Ethan," Lauren replied, her voice sweet and full of light. "You walked into my darkest night and showed me that real love is safe, pure, and unbreakable. You gave me a home, a true partner, and the family I always dreamed of. I am yours, completely and forever."
When the minister pronounced us husband and wife, I pulled Lauren into a passionate, breathtaking kiss beneath the warm summer sun, while Emma cheered and our guests erupted into thunderous, standing applause.
