Chapter 9 - Courtroom and ConsequenceThe final sentencing hearing of The United States v. Victor Hale was a quiet, solemn event.

The courtroom was packed with reporters, local citizens, and members of Elena’s charity foundation. I sat in the front row, holding my sister’s hand, our posture perfect and proud as the judge stepped up to the bench.

Victor stood before the court, wearing his dark jumpsuit, his shoulders slumped, his head bowed. He looked like a hollow shell of the arrogant man who had stood over my sister in his expensive coat.

"Victor Hale," the judge said, his voice echoing in the silent chamber. "Your actions represent a level of calculation, greed, and cold-blooded cruelty that this court rarely witnesses. You used your position, your wealth, and your family's name to systematically exploit and abuse a young woman. When she resisted, you resorted to physical terror."

The judge slammed his heavy mahogany gavel down with a sharp, echoing crack.

"I sentence you to a combined term of twenty-five years in a federal penitentiary, with no possibility of parole. Judith Hale, you are sentenced to ten years."

As the bailiffs stepped forward to lead them away in chains, Victor turned his head to look at me one last time, a low, pathetic sob escaping his lips. I didn't look at him; my eyes were focused entirely on my sister, whose face was radiant with a warm, beautiful smile of pure, unadulterated relief.

The wolves were finally locked in their cages, and our family had been restored to the light.
