Chapter 10 - The Sun Rises AgainTwo years after the trial, I stood on the cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara. The sun was setting, painting the sky in vibrant shades of gold, violet, and deep crimson.

Beside me stood David Sterling, a gentle, brilliant legal advocate I had met through my charitable work. David didn't care about high-society galas or corporate titles; he cared about justice, family, and truth. He held my hand softly, his fingers interlocking with mine as we watched Lily run along the grassy park trail ahead of us.
“What are you thinking about?” David asked gently, leaning over to kiss my temple.
“I’m thinking about how far we’ve come,” I said, smiling as Lily turned around, waving a yellow wildflower she had just picked.
“Mommy, look!” Lily cheered, running back toward us with pure, unbridled joy in her steps.
I knelt down and caught her in my arms, pulling her tight against my heart. She smelled like ocean air and sunshine.
There were no more secrets. No more fear. No more waiting for the other shoe to drop. The past was entirely behind us, locked away in a prison cell across the state, while our future stretched out wide and beautiful like the ocean before us.
Grant had tried to give us an ending in the desert. But he didn't realize that every ending born of cruelty only gives rise to an unshakeable, victorious beginning.
