Chapter 9 - The Wedding on the Coast

On a perfect, sun-drenched Saturday in June, our wedding was held on the private ocean bluffs of Malibu.
The cliffs were draped in cascading white roses, blooming eucalyptus, and soft lavender overlooking the sparkling blue Pacific.
Over two hundred of our closest friends, colleagues, recovered patients, and family members sat beneath the azure sky.
I walked down the petal-strewn aisle on the arm of my father, who beamed with immense, unburdened pride in his tailored black tuxedo.
I wore a breathtaking, custom ivory lace gown with an open back and a cathedral-length veil that caught the ocean breeze like a sail of light.
Standing as my maid of honor, looking radiant and tearful in a blush-pink silk dress, was Chloe.
When my father placed my hand into Julian’s, Julian looked at me with an adoration so profound that the entire world seemed to fade into silence.
"Maya," Julian spoke during his vows, his voice clear and resonant. "You taught me that beauty is not the absence of scars, but the triumph of the soul that wore them. I vow to honor you, protect you, cherish you, and love every breath of your life for all eternity."
May you like
"Julian," I replied, my voice sweet and steady. "You saw my truth, loved my scars, and gave me a harbor of pure, unshakeable trust. I am yours, completely and forever."
When the minister pronounced us husband and wife, Julian pulled me into a passionate, breathless kiss beneath the golden California sun, while our guests erupted into joyful, standing cheers.
