Chapter 8 - The Reclaimed Fortress

Within fourteen days of the meeting, Sterling Technologies officially filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
At the bankruptcy asset auction conducted at the Dirksen Federal Courthouse, Carter Investments stepped in as the primary creditor. For thirty cents on the dollar, we acquired the entirety of Sterling Technologies’ software patents, client databases, and commercial real estate holdings.
I merged the assets into our primary operating division, rebranded the enterprise as Vance-Carter Technologies, and restored full health benefits and stock options to the hundreds of hardworking engineers and support staff Daniel had exploited.
As part of the court liquidation, Daniel’s Lake Forest mansion was placed on the auction block.
I purchased the property through our corporate trust.
I did not move back into the house. Instead, I had the entire structure demolished and donated the six acres of prime lakefront land to the Children’s Hope Foundation, constructing a state-of-the-art medical recovery and shelter pavilion for mothers and infants escaping domestic crisis.
