Chapter 7 - The Total Liquidation

Daniel sank into the nearest leather chair, burying his face in his hands.
"Madison... please," Daniel begged, tears of humiliation leaking through his fingers. "Sterling Technologies is my entire life. If you don't approve the bridge financing, the bank will seize everything. My house, my stock, my personal assets... I will be bankrupt."
I looked down at the man who had thrown me into the street twelve days after a Caesarean section.
"Three years ago, Daniel, you told me that you needed partners who create value," I said, looking him dead in the eyes. "You looked at our newborn daughter in her bassinet and told me she was just an expense."
Daniel looked up at Chloe, his eyes pleading. "Madison... she's my daughter too! Think of Chloe!"
Chloe frowned slightly, leaning closer against my arm. "Mommy, who is the noisy man?"
The innocent question struck Daniel like a physical blow to the chest.
"She doesn't know you, Daniel," I said softly. "And she never will. You signed away your parental rights three years ago in exchange for zero child support payments. Remember?"
I picked up the investment contract lying on the desk.
With a slow, deliberate motion, I turned the final signature page over and wrote one single word in black ink: REJECTED.
I closed the leather folder.
"Sarah," I called through the intercom. "Escort Mr. Carter and Miss Hayes to the ground floor. The federal marshals are waiting."
As two armed security officers entered the boardroom, Daniel was hauled to his feet. He looked at me one last time—a broken, ruined man who had traded his family and empire for an illusion of arrogance.

Victoria was escorted out sobbing uncontrollably as federal marshals waited by the elevator to serve grand jury arrest warrants for securities fraud.
I sat tall at the head of my boardroom, wrapping my arm securely around Chloe, watching the double doors close forever on the past.
