Chapter 6 - The Woman Victor Paid to Lie

Prosecutors found another witness.

Samantha Hale, Victor’s former assistant.

She admitted Victor paid her $40,000 to tell investigators Lena had been suicidal.

Samantha was twenty-six, terrified, and facing obstruction charges.

During interview she cried.

“He said nobody would get hurt.”

Lena stared through one-way glass.

“He locked me at minus fifty.”

Santos said, “Samantha claims she thought Victor planned insurance fraud after staged disappearance.”

“Do you believe her?”

“Parts.”

Samantha had scheduled the anonymous call through a prepaid service. She also altered Victor’s calendar to place him at investor dinner.

But she did not know freezer plan.

Maybe.

Evidence supported partial ignorance.

Lena felt rage anyway.

“How many people did he use?”

Alex answered, “Anyone he thought needed him.”

That was Victor’s power.

Not strength.

Dependency.

He made people need money, jobs, approval.

Then asked for one more favor.
