Chapter 8 - The Gala of ReckoningFriday night arrived. The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was packed with three hundred of the city’s elite—politicians, CEOs, board members, and journalists.

Elena wore a dazzling emerald green gown, her diamond necklace sparkling under the crystal chandeliers. Beside her stood Marcus Vance, wearing a tailored tuxedo, sipping champagne and smiling warmly at the board members.

“Where is Ricardo?” the chairman of the board asked, approaching Marcus. “The press conference was supposed to start ten minutes ago.”

Marcus assumed a look of deep, dramatic sorrow. He dabbed his eyes with a silk handkerchief. “I’m afraid I have tragic news, gentlemen. Ricardo suffered a severe cardiac episode at his home last night. He is currently in critical condition at an undisclosed private facility.”

Gasps echoed through the immediate circle of board members. Elena pulled out a tissue, forcing tears into her eyes. “It was so sudden… his heart just gave out under the stress of recent market shifts.”

Marcus stepped up to the main podium, raising his hands to address the crowded ballroom. The reporters raised their cameras, flashes blinding the stage.

“Ladies and gentlemen,” Marcus announced into the microphone, his voice echoing with calculated solemnity. “In light of Don Ricardo’s sudden, devastating health crisis, and in accordance with the emergency governance protocols signed by his wife, I am stepping in as acting CEO of Santoro Enterprises to ensure stability—”

Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open.

The lights in the hall dimmed, and the massive projector screens behind the stage flickered to life.

A tall, commanding figure stepped through the entrance, dressed in a flawless black tuxedo, walking with absolute power and vigor.
