Chapter 14 - THE RECORDING THAT COULD END AN EMPIRE|

The forged documents became the first crack in Vincent's public image.
Within hours, Adrian's legal team identified several inconsistencies. The dissolved subsidiary had been used to authorize transfers from three charitable foundations, and the same authorization code appeared in confidential records connected to Daniel's disappearance.
The pattern was unmistakable.
Someone had been using Sera's identity to conceal financial crimes.
But proving who had done it required more than suspicious paperwork.
They needed the original ledger.
Daniel believed Eleanor had hidden a recording alongside the documents in the bank vault. The recording, he explained, had been made during a private meeting between Vincent and several executives.
“If we find it, it could establish who authorized the transfers,” he said.
Sera sat beside him at the kitchen table.
“And if we don't?”
“Vincent will keep controlling the story.”
Adrian entered with a folder.
“The bank has agreed to release the trust documents tomorrow morning, provided Sera appears in person.”
Daniel frowned.
“It's a trap.”
“Possibly,” Adrian admitted. “But if we don't retrieve the records, Vincent can challenge the trust and freeze the assets.”
Sera stood.
“Then we'll go.”
Adrian looked at her.
“Not without security.”
“I never said without security.”
He studied her face, then nodded.
The next morning, they arrived at the bank with Marcus, two attorneys, and a security team.
The vault manager examined the brass key and verified Sera's identity. After several minutes, he returned carrying a sealed metal case.
Inside were the original trust documents, a small digital recorder, and a handwritten letter addressed to Adrian.
Sera handed him the letter.
He hesitated before opening it.
His mother's handwriting filled the page.
My son, if you are reading this, I failed to protect you from the truth. Your father has mistaken power for love, and I fear he will teach you to do the same. Do not let him decide what kind of man you become.
Adrian stopped reading.
Sera touched his hand.
“Keep going.”
The letter described the financial scheme and identified several executives who had helped Vincent conceal the stolen money.
But the final paragraph changed everything.
The recording does not contain the whole truth. One person in this family helped Vincent from the beginning. I could never prove it, but I believe that person still has access to everything we own.
Adrian looked at Marcus.
“Who knew about this vault?”
“Only the bank, the legal team, and the people who arranged the trust.”
A phone vibrated inside Marcus's pocket.
He checked the message and went pale.
“Sir, the residence has been breached.”
Adrian grabbed the case.
“Is Sera's father safe?”
Marcus didn't answer immediately.
Then he said, “Daniel is missing.”
Sera's face went white.
On the bank's security monitor, a new message appeared.
Bring the recording to the old warehouse by midnight. Come alone, Adrian, or the next person who disappears will not come back alive.

The message was signed with a single letter.
