Chapter 7 - The Downfall of Vance DefenseWith Daniel locked away in federal detention and Victoria Vance facing multiple counts of felony conspiracy and wire fraud, the fallout spread directly to Vance Defense Tech—our primary corporate rival.

When news broke that Victoria Vance had used company subsidiaries to launder twelve million dollars of stolen Hartwell Aviation capital, the Department of Defense immediately suspended all active government contracts with Vance Defense Tech pending a comprehensive federal audit.
Their company stock crashed eighty-five percent in forty-eight hours.
On a rainy Tuesday afternoon, Julian Vance—Victoria’s father and the billionaire founder of Vance Defense Tech—arrived at my executive suite at Hartwell Aviation, begging for a private audience.
He was an old, powerful man who had spent forty years dominating the defense industry, but today he looked broken, aged, and desperate.
I sat behind my father’s polished mahogany desk, wearing a tailored cream silk blouse, holding a warm cup of tea. Miriam Shaw sat beside me.
“Eleanor,” Julian Vance began, his voice raspy as he sat down across from me, holding a leather briefcase. “I am here to offer a complete, out-of-court settlement.”
I took a slow sip of tea, setting the china cup down with a soft click. “I am listening, Julian.”
“My daughter made a catastrophic error in judgment,” Julian admitted, his hands trembling slightly on his knees. “She was manipulated by your husband’s greed. If you drop the civil lawsuits against Vance Defense Tech, I will personally guarantee the immediate return of the twelve million dollars embezzled from your firm, plus a twenty-million-dollar cash penalty.”
Miriam Shaw chuckled softly, leaning back in her chair. “Julian, your company’s market cap dropped below fifty million dollars this morning. Your board of directors is preparing to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy by Friday.”
Julian swallowed hard, looking directly at me with begging eyes. “Eleanor... our families have known each other for thirty years. Your father and I competed, but we respected each other. Don't destroy my life's work over my daughter’s foolishness.”
I looked at the old man, remembering how he had tried to acquire my father’s company through aggressive hostile takeovers five years ago.
“Your daughter didn't just make a mistake, Julian,” I said, my voice steady and firm. “She helped my husband attempt to frame me for forty million dollars in illegal debt while raising a child in secret using my family’s money.”
I pushed a document across the desk toward him.
“What is this?” Julian asked, his voice trembling.
“That is a formal asset acquisition agreement,” I explained smoothly. “Hartwell Aviation will purchase all manufacturing facilities, patents, and government contracts of Vance Defense Tech for one dollar, assuming your valid operations while liquidating your executive management.”
Julian stared at the paper in absolute shock. “One dollar?! You’re absorbing my entire empire for one dollar?!”
“Or,” Miriam added pleasantly, “you can decline, and the federal prosecutors will seize your entire corporate infrastructure under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act by tomorrow morning.”
Julian’s breath hitched in his throat. He looked at the document, then looked up at me—the woman his daughter and son-in-law had dismissed as a sheltered, helpless victim.

With a trembling hand, Julian pulled a gold pen from his coat pocket and signed his name at the bottom of the page.
The rival empire that had tried to consume my father’s legacy was now completely mine.
