THE LOUNGE AT GATE 12 / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - The Sky Above BostonTwo years later.

On a clear, golden Saturday afternoon, the sun reflected off the calm waters of the Charles River in Boston.

The private garden of my Beacon Hill estate was filled with blooming white hydrangeas, lush green lawns, and the sound of soft acoustic music.

Friends, family, and trusted colleagues gathered beneath a white silk canopy for our intimate wedding ceremony.

I stood before Marcus Vance in a breathtaking, simple ivory silk gown, holding a bouquet of lily of the valley. Marcus looked handsome and radiant in his dark suit, his eyes locked onto mine with a love so deep and steady it made my heart soar.

Miriam Shaw, acting as our officiant, smiled warmly at us.

“Do you, Eleanor Hartwell, take Marcus Vance to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love, honor, and cherish through every sky and storm?”

I looked into Marcus’s eyes—the man who had stood by me during my darkest fight, who had helped me reclaim my legacy, and who cherished me for my strength rather than my compliance.

“I do,” I said, my voice clear, confident, and filled with radiant joy.

“And do you, Marcus Vance, take Eleanor Hartwell to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

“With all my heart,” Marcus answered without a second’s hesitation.

“Then by the authority vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife,” Miriam declared proudly. “You may kiss the bride.”

Marcus stepped forward, placing his hands gently on my waist, pulling me close, and kissing me with a tender, deep passion that brought cheers and applause from our guests.

After the ceremony, Marcus and I walked out onto the private upper terrace of the estate, looking out over the glittering Boston skyline and the endless blue sky above.

In the distance, a sleek white Hartwell Aviation commercial jet climbed gracefully into the clouds, its silver wings catching the golden light of the setting sun.

Ten years ago, a man had tried to make me lose quietly, believing I was weak, helpless, and easily replaced.

He hadn't realized that when you try to crush a woman built on truth and integrity, you don't destroy her.

You simply teach her how to fly.

I rested my head against my husband’s shoulder, holding his hand tightly as we watched our planes soar into the bright, limitless horizon.

Our legacy was just beginning.
