Chapter 2 - WAKING UP ON THE SHORE

When Elena woke, there was sand in her mouth, blood on her tongue, and wreckage scattered across an unknown tropical beach like silver bones. The heat of the sun beat down heavily against her skin, baking the damp fabric of her blouse and skirt. She pushed herself up from the wet sand, coughing violently as saltwater cleared her lungs, and looked around in a daze of absolute disorientation. There was no sign of the pilots or the two guards who had been seated near the cockpit. The vast, empty expanse of the Atlantic stretched out infinitely behind her, while dense, emerald jungle rose sharply from the tree line ahead. She was alive, but she was entirely stranded on what appeared to be an uninhabited island, miles away from any shipping lanes or civilization.
