Chapter 7 - The Foundation of Truth

The man was Julian Montgomery—a master naval architect and the founder of Montgomery Marine Heritage, a specialized firm dedicated to restoring historic wooden vessels and building zero-emission ocean research ships.

At thirty-two, Julian was athletic, patient, and carried a quiet, authentic confidence that required no ego or performance. He had built his business from the ground up through hard work, technical brilliance, and absolute honesty with his crew.

"I'm sorry about Baron," I smiled, adjusting my scarf. "He seems to think every classic sailboat is his personal playground."

"No apology necessary," Julian replied, extending a strong, calloused hand. "I'm Julian. And judging by this dog’s posture, he knows quality mahogany when he sees it."

"I'm Audrey Sterling," I replied, shaking his hand.

His grip was firm, warm, and completely devoid of the manipulative arrogance I had spent years enduring.

Over the next few weeks, Julian and I collaborated on designing a solar-powered coastal research vessel for the Sterling Foundation. What began as morning meetings over blueprints quickly blossomed into long walks along the Newport cliffs, quiet dinners at seaside bistros, and deep conversations about our shared values.

Julian was everything Ryan had never been: deeply protective without being possessive, celebrating my leadership with unselfish pride, and treating me with an unshakeable, tender respect.

With Julian, there were no secrets, no demands, and no hidden agendas—only the pure, steady rhythm of two equals building a life of purpose.
