Chapter 4 - The Exposure in the Foyer

The heavy front doors opened, and I walked onto the stone porch flanked by our corporate security detail.

Ryan, who had just driven up in his sports car after an early morning meeting, slammed his door and ran toward the steps, his face pale as ash.

"Audrey! What the hell is going on?!" Ryan shouted, looking at the police officers and auditors. "Call off these people right now!"

"Take a look at the docket, Ryan," Arthur Sterling said, handing a thick red folder to him.

Ryan opened the first page. His hands began to shake violently, his eyes darting frantically across the bank records, the forged signatures, and the high-resolution photographs of him with Elena Moreau in Tribeca.

"Audrey... listen to me," Ryan stammered, dropping the folder onto the stone steps. "The Tribeca apartment... it's not what it looks like! Elena was just a business consultant!"

"You used my grandfather's trust to buy a penthouse for your mistress, Ryan," I said, my voice cutting through the morning air like a diamond blade. "You let your mother tear the dress off my back in my own home while you stood there like a coward."

"Your grandfather's trust...?" Lorraine gasped, her eyes widening in horror as she looked from Ryan to me. "Ryan... what is she talking about? You told me this entire estate was purchased under your corporation!"

"His corporation was financed entirely by my capital, Lorraine," I replied with freezing calm. "Ryan didn't own a single brick. He was an authorized signer on an auxiliary allowance account—an authorization that was terminated at sunrise."

Detective Marcus Vance stepped forward, signaling his deputies.

"Ryan Vance and Lorraine Vance," Detective Vance announced. "You are hereby served with emergency grand jury subpoenas and an immediate eviction notice from this property."

May you like

"Eviction?!" Lorraine shrieked. "You can't evict us! We have nowhere to go!"

"The local municipal hotel is three miles down the road, Lorraine," I said quietly. "I suggest you start walking."
