THE GENERAL'S RETURN / Chapter 5 / 10

Chapter 5 - Absolute Authority

he tactical team moved with a flawless, terrifying efficiency that only comes from years

of high-level military training. Within seconds, the kitchen was flooded with black-clad

operators, their weapon mounted flashlights cutting through the room, their laser sights painting red

dots across Frank’s chest. The lead operator, a tall, imposing man with a scarred jaw and the rank

insignia of a US Marshal, stepped into the room, his rifle raised.

"Ashford Police Lieutenant Frank Hale!" the Marshal roared, his voice carrying the weight of the

entire federal government. "Drop your weapon immediately! If you do not disarm, you will be

neutralized!"

Frank stood frozen, his service pistol still clutched in his shaking hand. His mind, accustomed to

bullying unarmed civilians, simply couldn't comprehend the scale of the force that had just

materialized in his kitchen. "I... I am a police officer!" he stammered, his voice high and weak. "This is

my house! I have a right to defend my property!"

"You are pointing a weapon at a four-star General of the United States Army," the Marshal

replied, his tone ice cold as he took a step forward. "That is an act of treason. Drop the gun. Now."

With a trembling hand, Frank opened his fingers. His service weapon fell to the floor with a

heavy, metallic clatter. Two tactical operators immediately lunged forward, grabbing his arms, forcing

him to his knees, and snapping heavy federal zip-ties around his wrists. His face was slammed down

onto the same hardwood floor where he had forced me just minutes prior. He let out a pathetic,

muffled groan as his badge was ripped from his shirt pocket, and his gun was secured in an evidence

bag.

Kyle was forced to his knees beside his father, his hands placed firmly on his head, his face wet

with tears of absolute terror. My mother stood shivering in the corner, her eyes wide with shock,

realizing for the first time that the daughter she had always tried to shield from Frank’s anger was

actually a force of nature. The lead Marshal walked over to me, unclipped a set of universal cuff keys,

and knelt down. With a soft click, the heavy steel handcuffs were removed from my wrists, and I was

free.
