Chapter 5 - The Birth of a LegacyFour days after the confrontation with Eleanor, in the private suite of Mount Sinai Hospital, my world changed forever.

After twelve hours of labor, accompanied by the quiet, steady presence of my father holding my hand through every contraction, the soft cry of a newborn baby filled the room.
"It's a boy, Miss Emily," the doctor smiled, placing the warm, tiny bundle onto my chest.
He had dark, silky hair, bright blue eyes, and a strong, fierce cry. I held him tightly against my skin, tears of overwhelming joy streaming down my cheeks, washing away the lingering horror of the mountain.
William leaned over the bed, his broad hand gently caressing the baby's tiny head, his eyes brimming with tears he didn't bother to hide.
"What is his name, Emily?" William asked softly.
I looked down at my son, then up at the silver-haired billionaire who had pulled me out of the snow and given me back my life.
"His name is Alexander," I whispered. "Alexander William Carter."
William let out a choked laugh, kissing my forehead gently. "Welcome to the world, Alexander."
While I spent the next two weeks recovering and bonding with my son in the quiet safety of the Carter Estate, the legal proceedings against Ethan Harper moved with relentless speed.
The District Attorney, presented with the ironclad evidence gathered by William's private intelligence team—including satellite footage of Ethan's car leaving the trail head and recorded phone calls between Ethan and Vanessa discussing the insurance payout—offered no plea deal.
Ethan was charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted feticide, grand larceny, insurance fraud, and obstruction of justice.
From his cell in the Rikers Island high-security wing, Ethan sent dozens of frantic, handwritten letters to the estate, begging for forgiveness, pleading to see his son, promising to sign over every remaining asset if I would only ask the DA to reduce the charges.
I never opened a single one.

I handed every unopened letter directly to my legal team to be added to the harassment file for the upcoming trial.
Ethan had believed I was weak because I was gentle. He had believed he could crush me because I loved him. He was about to learn that a woman protecting her child is the most dangerous force on earth.
