Chapter 4 - The Secret Cloud

At 8:00 PM that evening, Sarah Vance stepped quietly into my private hospital room.

Sarah was a formidable, sharp-witted trial attorney in her fifties who had been my father’s closest friend since law school. She wore a dark trench coat and carried a secure leather briefcase.

When Sarah saw my bandaged face and charred shoulder, tears of fury welled in her eyes.

"Elena... my God," Sarah whispered, gently placing her hand over my uninjured left fingers. "What did that monster do to you?"

"He pushed me into the boiling soup, Sarah," I whispered, tears leaking from my left eye onto the sterile pillow. "He wanted the house. Evelyn took my phone, and Julian ripped the pantry camera down before calling 911."

Sarah pulled a secure laptop from her briefcase and opened an encrypted software interface.

"Your father called this protocol the Iron Vault," Sarah said softly, connecting the laptop to a cellular hotspot. "He gave me the master decryption keys three days before he passed away. The garage hub recorded every camera in the house at 4K resolution with omnidirectional audio."

Sarah pressed play on the file timestamped Sunday, 3:14 PM.

The screen illuminated with crisp, horrifying clarity.

The video captured the entire argument. It showed Evelyn sipping coffee, Julian screaming for the deed, and then the devastating moment: Julian deliberately gripping my shoulders and shoving my eight-month pregnant body into the stove.

The audio was sickeningly clear:

Julian: "If she won’t sign the house over, Mom, we’ll make it look like a pregnancy accident." Evelyn: "Maybe now she’ll stop being so selfish."

Sarah closed the laptop, her hands trembling with righteous fury. "We have them, Elena. We have premeditated attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, and felony child endangerment."

"Not yet, Sarah," I whispered, gripping her sleeve. "Julian is planning to file for divorce and claim the house through marital abandonment. Let him file. Let him believe he has won. We will deliver the blow where he can never escape: in open court."
