Chapter 7 - The Bloodline TruthBefore Daniel could raise the gun, a loud bang echoed from the back of the ballroom.

The heavy oak doors were thrown open, and a squad of Federal Bureau of Investigation agents poured into the room, weapons drawn. Leading them was Julian Vance, his arm in a sling and his face bruised, but his eyes burning with victory.
"Daniel Whitmore! Drop the weapon!" the lead FBI agent barked over a bullhorn. "The building is surrounded!"
Daniel hesitated, looking around wildly. The powerful judges and politicians who had dined with him five minutes ago were now backing away, holding their hands up to distance themselves from the disgraced family.
"This is ridiculous!" Margaret shrieked, clutching her diamond necklace. "We are the Whitmores! You can't touch us! That girl is a fraud!"
"The DNA results came back an hour ago, Margaret," Julian announced loudly, stepping up onto the stage beside me. "We submitted Emily's hair sample along with the original Vance estate records. She is a 99.9% match to Eleanor Vance. The court has already issued an emergency injunction freezing every single Whitmore asset, bank account, and property worldwide."
Daniel’s hand trembled. He looked at me, then at the FBI agents advancing on the stage. With a desperate curse, he lowered the gun, dropping it onto the stage carpet before two agents tackled him to the floor and pulled his arms behind his back.
"Emily!" Margaret screamed as handcuffed were slapped around her wrists as well. "You ruined us! You worthless little brat!"
I walked up to Margaret as the agents led her away. I looked her dead in the eye, resting my hand gently over my grandmother's emerald brooch.
May you like
"My mother gave you her trust, and you murdered her," I said softly, my voice carrying over the quieted room. "My grandmother gave me this brooch to protect me from you. You didn't just lose your money tonight, Margaret. You lost your name."
Margaret spat at my feet, but the agents yanked her backward, dragging her out of the ballroom amidst a blinding storm of news camera flashes.
