Chapter 4 - Shadows Behind the GlassAs the weeks passed, the bond between Arya, Maya, and Liam deepened into something profound. Cooked dinners in the kitchen became a daily routine. Shared laughs over spilled flour and messy art projects replaced the cold silence that once dominated the apartment. Liam found himself rushing home from corporate meetings just to catch the final hours of Arya’s visit.

However, the outside world remained a hostile storm. The deepfake scandal involving Arya Thorne continued to dominate entertainment news, with media outlets demanding her public boycott. Every time Liam mentioned the news on his phone, Arya felt a chill run down her spine.
One night, while Maya was fast asleep, Liam found Arya standing alone on the balcony, looking out over the sparkling Manhattan skyline. The freezing wind whipped her dark hair across her face, but she barely seemed to feel it.
“You carry a heavy weight, Rose,” Liam said softly, stepping up behind her and wrapping his thick wool scarf around her neck.
Arya pulled the scarf close, inhaling the scent of cedarwood and rain. “Sometimes the world decides who you are before you even get a chance to speak.”

Liam placed his hands gently on her shoulders, turning her to face him. “Let them speak. I know who you are. You are the kindest, gentlest soul that has ever entered this house.”
He leaned down and pressed a soft, lingering kiss to her lips. Arya closed her eyes, surrendering to the overwhelming safety of his embrace, while inwardly weeping for the truth she was still too terrified to reveal.
