Chapter 5 - The Corporate RaidWhile Vivian was being evicted from my apartment, a far larger legal storm was breaking over downtown Manhattan at the corporate headquarters of Vance Logistics.

At 1:30 p.m., three black sedans pulled up outside the glass high-rise on Wall Street.
Out stepped two lead investigators from the Securities and Exchange Commission, accompanied by three state prosecutors and my legal team led by Evelyn.
They rode the private executive elevator up to the top floor, stepping out directly into the marble lobby of Daniel’s office suite.
Daniel’s chief operating officer, a man named Richard, rushed out from his office, his face pale with anxiety. “Evelyn?! What’s going on here? Where is Daniel? He missed the quarterly board meeting at noon!”
“Daniel is currently residing in the Essex County Holding Facility, Richard,” Evelyn announced clearly, her voice echoing across the open office floor where twenty employees stopped working to listen.
Richard blinked in shock. “Holding facility?! On what charges?!”
“Embezzlement, corporate forgery, tax evasion, and felony domestic violence,” Evelyn replied, handing him a federal asset preservation order. “We are executing an immediate freeze on all corporate accounts, server logs, and financial records associated with Vance Logistics.”
Two SEC agents walked past Richard, entering Daniel’s corner office and placing official yellow security seals across his computers, desk drawers, and file cabinets.
At that exact moment, Daniel’s young female assistant—Chloe—walked out of his private bathroom holding a designer handbag.
When she saw the federal agents, her eyes widened in terror.
“Chloe,” Evelyn called out smoothly, walking up to her desk. “You might want to return the keys to the 2025 sports car Daniel leased for you last month. The lease was funded using stolen trust assets, and the vehicle has just been impounded from the executive parking garage.”

Chloe gasped, dropping her purse onto the carpet, tears welling in her eyes as she fumbled to pull the key fob from her ring.
Within two hours, the entire operations of Vance Logistics were suspended. Daniel’s corporate empire—the image of success he had spent three years building on my suffering—was completely dismantled before the trading floor even closed for the day.
