Chapter 7 - The Adoption of Grace and Lily

At 2:00 AM, the elevator doors of the penthouse opened.
I was sitting on the sofa near the fireplace, holding Grace against my chest while Lily slept peacefully in the bassinet beside me.
When I saw Elias walk in—uninjured, his white uniform pristine, carrying a sealed legal binder—my heart soared with boundless relief.
Elias set the binder on the coffee table and knelt beside the sofa.
"Gregory Thorne and Marco Marcone are in federal custody," Elias said gently, resting his warm hand over mine. "Gregory signed the termination papers. You are legally divorced, fully independent, and granted sole, unchallengeable custody of your daughters."
I buried my face in my hands, sobbing tears of profound, overwhelming joy. The nightmare that had haunted my life was finally, completely over.
Elias reached into his pocket, pulling out a second document stamped with the gold seal of the New York Supreme Court.
"What is this, Elias?" I asked through my tears.
"When I was at the courthouse with Judge Montgomery," Elias said, his deep voice softening with rare vulnerability, "I petitioned to legally register Grace and Lily under the Vance family trust. If you will permit me, Ava... I want to give them my name. I want to be their father. Not just on paper, but in every way that matters."
I looked from the legal document to the man kneeling before me. I saw the fierce protector who had warmed my dying babies on his bare chest, who had avenged our honor, and who had given us a home when the entire world had thrown us away.

"They could never have a better father in this world, Elias," I whispered, throwing my arms around his neck.
Elias pulled me and baby Grace into a fierce, tender embrace, resting his forehead against mine as our tears mingled in the warm light of the fire.
