Chapter 5 - The Midnight Raid on Pier 54

At 11:45 PM, heavy freezing fog blanketed the shipping cranes and rusting cargo containers of Pier 54 along the Brooklyn waterfront.

Inside a converted warehouse office, Gregory Thorne was counting stacks of hundred-dollar bills, a half-empty bottle of bourbon sitting on the table. Flanking him was Marco Marcone, the ruthless, scarred underboss of the Marcone family, surrounded by thirty armed henchmen wielding assault rifles.

"The container is loaded, Thorne," Marcone grunted, lighting a cigar. "Once we hit the open ocean, the broker wires the remaining three hundred grand. What about the girl and the brats?"

"They're probably dead in a county morgue by now," Gregory laughed callously. "And if they survived, I'll claim paternal custody next week, collect the life insurance, and hand them over to your overseas buyers."

Suddenly, every floodlight across the pier simultaneously went black.

The warehouse was plunged into absolute, pitch-black darkness.

"What the hell happened to the generator?!" Marcone shouted, cocking his pistol. "Defensive positions!"

Before his men could move, the heavy reinforced steel bay doors of the warehouse were blown off their hinges in a deafening, concussive explosion of sparks and smoke.

Flashbangs illuminated the room in blinding white bursts.

Through the smoke marched thirty armored tactical operators in full naval assault gear, moving with ruthless, textbook military precision. Within ninety seconds, every Marcone gunman was disarmed and pinned face-down against the concrete floor.

Footsteps echoed through the silence.

Elias Vance walked through the shattered doorway, dressed in his crisp white naval commander uniform, an unyielding aura of absolute authority radiating from every step.

Gregory Thorne scrambled backward behind the desk, knocking over his bourbon bottle, his eyes bulging in sheer, unadulterated terror.

"V-Vance...?!" Gregory stammered, his voice cracking into a high-pitched squeak. "This is Marcone territory! You have no jurisdiction here!"

Elias walked up to the desk, stopping two feet from where Gregory was trembling.

"You left a woman and two newborn infants to freeze in the snow beneath an overpass, Thorne," Elias said, his voice dropping into an ice-cold register that froze the blood in Gregory’s veins.

"She was my wife!" Gregory shrieked. "Those are my kids! You can't interfere in family business!"

Elias reached across the desk with lightning speed. His iron fingers clamped around Gregory’s throat, lifting the grown man three feet off the ground with effortless strength.
