Chapter 10 - The Light on the LakeOne year after the nightmare in the penthouse.

The sun was setting over Lake Michigan, painting the water in brilliant, breathtaking hues of liquid gold, soft violet, and warm amber.
A small gathering of true friends sat on the lakeside patio—Dr. Reynolds, Dominic (who now ran a legitimate private security consulting firm), and a few close family friends. Laughter and soft music drifted through the warm summer air.
I stood near the edge of the lawn, holding fifteen-month-old Hope in my arms. She was wearing a tiny white sundress, clapping her small hands together as she pointed at a sailboat gliding across the blue water.
“Look, Daddy! Boat!” Hope cheered, her voice full of pure, unbridled joy.
“Yes, baby,” I laughed, kissing her soft cheek. “A big sailboat.”
Clara walked out onto the lawn toward us, wearing a stunning white summer dress that fluttered in the breeze. She looked radiant, her skin glowing with health, her smile bright and whole.
She wrapped her arm around my waist, resting her head against my shoulder as we watched the sunset together.
“Did you see the news today?” Clara asked softly.
“I didn't check,” I replied, looking down at her. “I don't care about the news anymore.”
“Eleanor’s final appeal was rejected,” Clara revealed quietly. “She and Rossi are serving twenty years without parole.”
I took a deep breath of the fresh lake air, holding my wife and daughter closer to my heart. The past no longer had power over us. The dark empire had crumbled, but from its ashes, we had built a true kingdom of love, peace, and family.
Hope reached down, pointing at the white tulips blooming along the grass.
“Flower!” Hope giggled.
Clara picked a single white tulip from the garden, placing it gently into Hope’s small hands, then looked up into my eyes with a warmth that filled my soul with absolute peace.
“They really do look hopeful without trying too hard,” Clara whispered, smiling.
I leaned down and pressed my lips gently against hers—a long, sweet kiss filled with forgiveness, healing, and a promise of an infinite future together.
