Chapter 12 - Graham Came Home

Thirty months passed.
Graham returned thinner, gray at temples, quieter.
He moved into a modest townhouse downtown.
Did not reclaim Calloway House.
Did not rebuild criminal connections.
Worked as consultant under compliance restrictions.
We had coffee.
He wore his father’s watch.
“You look happy,” he said.
“I am.”
“Daniel?”
“Partly.”
He smiled.
“Good.”
Then:
“I used to think if I lost you, I lost everything.”
“What do you think now?”
May you like
“That losing you forced me to discover what was never mine.”
That stayed.
