Chapter 8 - THE SILVER EVIDENCEI pressed the button on the remote.

A large projector screen slowly lowered from the ceiling of the dining room—a feature my husband had installed for family movie nights. The room dimmed automatically, and the projector flickered to life.
"What is this?" Vanessa scoffed, though a tremor of fear was beginning to creep into her voice. "More home movies of your dead husband?"
"No," I said calmly. "This is a movie about you."
The screen filled with a crystal-clear, high-definition video feed. It was the interior of the guest house. The audio was incredibly sharp.
On the screen, Vanessa and Chloe were sitting on the sofa, drinking champagne.
"Did he sign it?" Chloe’s voice came through the speakers, loud and clear.
"Yeah," Vanessa’s on-screen self laughed, waving a document. "The idiot didn't even check the attachments. I told him it was the licensing agreement for his new software. Once we get the wedding date set, I'll have half of this estate. If he backs out, I'll sue him for fraud and take the house anyway. And that old lady? I'll have her declared mentally incompetent within a month."
"What about the pregnancy?" Chloe asked.
"I'll fake a miscarriage next month. Say the stress from his mother caused it. He'll feel so guilty he'll give me whatever I want."
Vanessa stared at the screen, her mouth hanging open. The color had completely drained from her face. "How... how did you get this? This is illegal! You bugged my private quarters!"
"The guest house is registered under my name as a private home office, Vanessa," I explained, my voice smooth and merciless. "Under state law, I am allowed to record any activity on my commercial property for security purposes. You signed the guest house lease agreement when you moved in, which included a clause consenting to security surveillance. You didn't read the attachments either, did you?"
Daniel watched the screen, his hands curling into fists. The sheer scale of the deception was staggering. They had planned to ruin his mother, steal his company, and destroy his life—all while pretending to love him.
"But that's not all," I said, pressing the button again.
The screen shifted to the garden. It was the footage from yesterday morning. The camera captured every detail—the sneer on Vanessa's face, the glint of the shears, the way she grabbed my hair and forced me down.
"You old-fashioned woman," Vanessa’s voice sneered from the speakers. "Daniel will never believe you. Who do you think he’ll choose? His sad old mother or the woman carrying his future?"
The video played the entire scene, showing Vanessa’s cruelty in stark, undeniable high-definition. It was a perfect, ironclad record of elder abuse, corporate fraud, and conspiracy.
"This video has already been uploaded to a secure cloud server," I told Vanessa, who was now trembling violently. "And a copy has been sent to the District Attorney's office. Along with the financial audits Marcus prepared showing your embezzlement of the wedding funds."
"Daniel, please," Vanessa begged, falling to her knees and grabbing his trousers. "I love you! I did it because I was afraid of losing you! I wanted to secure our future!"

Daniel looked down at her with a disgust so profound it seemed to make him physically ill. He stepped back, letting her fall face-first onto the floor.
"You're going to jail, Vanessa," Daniel said.
