Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Sun

Two years after our wedding, golden autumn sunlight poured through the wide French doors of our master bedroom.

The room was warm, filled with the sweet fragrance of fresh apples, woodsmoke, and soft acoustic piano music.

Sitting on the wide cedar rocking chair beside the window, Marcus was gently cradling our four-month-old baby girl, Clara. Clara had her father’s kind hazel eyes and a soft tuft of dark brown hair, cooing happily as she clutched Marcus’s thumb.

Barnaby lay contentedly at their feet, his tail wagging softly against the hardwood floor.

I walked over in my soft cream sweater, wrapping my arms around Marcus’s shoulders and resting my cheek against his head.

Marcus looked up, a radiant, peaceful smile touching his face as he kissed my cheek.

"She looks just like her mother," Marcus whispered lovingly.

"She has her father's pure heart," I smiled, reaching down to stroke Clara’s soft cheek.

I looked out through the panoramic windows at the golden apple orchards, the sparkling blue lake, and the majestic mountains standing tall under the open sky.

Four years ago, I had lay on a cold bed in Topeka, fighting the dark fog of a poisoned meal, listening to men plot my destruction behind locked doors.

They had believed that deceit, manipulation, and poison could erase the truth.

They had never understood that the truth is an indestructible light—a beacon that dismantles the deepest darkness and builds an empire of everlasting joy.

Marcus pulled me down onto his lap, holding both Clara and me tight against his strong, beating heart.

The long shadow of the past had vanished forever into the mountains. In its place stood an eternal, magnificent dawn—and our lives were finally, gloriously whole.
