Tonight was not a meeting of corrupt politicians or mob bosses, but the annual fundraising gala for the Elena Viscari Foundation. Over five million dollars had been raised in a single evening to expand shelter networks across the country.
Hundreds of prominent leaders, philanthropists, and community members filled the hall, applauding enthusiastically as I finished my keynote address at the podium.
As the applause echoed through the high ceilings, I stepped down from the stage.
Adrien stood waiting for me at the bottom of the grand marble staircase—the very staircase where I had collapsed barefoot, bleeding, and terrified one year ago.

We walked out of The Velvet Crown together under a clear, starry New York sky. The cool evening breeze blew gently across my face, carrying the fresh scent of the ocean and the vibrant energy of the city below.
