Chapter 7 - The Wall of PrideThat evening at eight o'clock, Julian arrived at the Rusty Spoon. The reporters had been cleared away by his private security team, but the atmosphere inside the diner was thick with tension.

Julian walked straight to Table Seven, but before he could sit down, Alara walked over. Her posture was stiff, her hands folded tightly behind her back, her expression cold and distant.
“Mr. Vance,” she said, her voice devoid of any warmth. “I think it would be better if you didn't eat here anymore.”
Julian paused, his hand resting on the back of the vinyl chair. “Alara... I am deeply sorry for the press. My team is already issuing legal injunctions to bury those stories.”
“It’s not just the stories,” Alara interrupted, her voice cracking with emotional strain. “My life is simple, Mr. Vance. I work twelve hours a day to keep a roof over my daughter’s head. I don't belong in your world of boardrooms, tabloids, and bodyguards.”
“I don't care about that world either,” Julian said earnestly, stepping closer. “Table Seven is the only place in this entire city where I feel human.”
“Well, I can’t afford your humanity!” Alara spat out, tears finally breaking through her composure. “My boss threatened to fire me today. My daughter was scared by reporters outside our apartment. Every time you try to protect me, my life gets harder!”
Julian went completely still. The raw truth of her words hung in the air between them like a heavy fog.
He looked at her bruised pride, her fierce independence, and the terror in her eyes. He realized that his presence, no matter how well-intentioned, was causing her pain.

“I understand,” Julian said quietly, his voice hollow.
He didn't argue. He didn't offer money or legal protection. He buttoned his suit jacket, bowed his head respectfully to her, and walked out of the diner into the pouring rain, leaving Table Seven empty for the first time in months.
