Chapter 9 - A New Horizon

Two years after the events at Coronado, the sun set in brilliant shades of amber and rose gold over the Pacific Ocean.

Ethan, now ten years old, was laughing on the sandy beach below the bluffs, tossing a frisbee with a golden retriever puppy who bounded playfully through the shallow surf.

Walking along the tide line with Olivia was Commander Thomas Bradley—a decorated naval search-and-rescue pilot and longtime family friend who had recently assumed command of the regional helicopter wing.

Thomas was gentle, honorable, and deeply grounded. He treated Ethan with immense patience and respect, teaching him how to sail small catamarans on the bay and coaching his youth soccer team on weekends.

"He's got a great arm," Thomas smiled, watching Ethan throw the frisbee across the sand.

"He gets his strength from knowing he's loved," Olivia replied softly, leaning her shoulder against Thomas's arm.

Thomas turned to look at her, his clear blue eyes full of genuine warmth. "And he gets his courage from his mother."

Olivia laughed, taking a deep breath of the fresh, salty ocean air. For years, she had lived in the shadow of a man who measured his worth by rank and vanity. Now, surrounded by real honor, peace, and unconditional love, she had built a life that was truly unshakable.
