Chapter 6 - The Confession of Serena Vale

While Andrew sat in the brig awaiting his preliminary Article 32 hearing, Serena Vale was undergoing intense interrogation in the federal building in downtown San Diego.
Confronted with forensic digital evidence and facing multiple counts of federal procurement fraud, corporate espionage, and tax evasion, Serena broke down within ninety minutes.
She turned state's evidence, handing over encrypted flash drives containing audio recordings of Andrew boasting about how he could manipulate naval supply chains to fund their private luxury lifestyle.
"He told me his wife was nobody," Serena wept into her hands, her designer composure completely shattered. "He swore she was just an insecure woman from a small town who depended on him for every dollar. He promised he would divorce her once the defense logistics contract cleared ten million dollars."

The federal prosecutor closed his folder with a chilling smile. "Commander Whitaker didn't make you rich, Miss Vale. He just handed you a ten-year federal prison sentence."
Within forty-eight hours, Vale Strategic Logistics filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, its assets seized to pay millions in civil restitution to the Department of Defense.
