Chapter 9: When Danger Found Her

They were both so focused on the unexpected connection forming between them that neither noticed the danger at first.
Someone had been watching Olivia for weeks — long before she ever entered Alexander’s car. A man from her past named Daniel Kerr. Years earlier, while treating a badly beaten woman in the emergency department, Olivia had encouraged her to report her husband and had later testified about the injuries she had documented. Daniel Kerr had gone to prison. He had been released early on a technicality. And he had not forgotten the nurse who helped put him there.
The first real sign came when Olivia’s apartment door was found unlocked even though she was certain she had secured it. The second was a handwritten note left under the windshield wiper of her neighbor’s car, placed so she would see it:
I found you.
When Alexander learned about the note, the calm, controlled billionaire disappeared. In his place stood a man who protected what mattered to him with absolute and terrifying focus.
“You’re not staying alone,” he told her that night in her small apartment. His voice was quiet but left no room for argument. “Not until this is handled. Pack a bag. You’re coming with me.”
May you like
Olivia wanted to argue. She was used to taking care of herself. She had been doing it for years. But the look in his eyes told her this was not a request made from arrogance or control. It was made from real fear of losing her.
She packed a bag.
