Chapter 6 - The Fall

They reboarded the helicopter and ascended into the clear afternoon sky.
Below them, the deep blue Atlantic churned against jagged coastal reefs.
Jason unbuckled his seatbelt and leaned toward Eleanor, smiling broadly.
"Let's take one final wedding photo near the open sky," he suggested over the roar of the engines.
He signaled to Pilot Miller, who activated the hydraulic door latch.
The heavy side door slid back, filling the cabin with a rushing, deafening roar of wind.
Eleanor stepped toward the threshold, her white silk bridal shawl whipping wildly around her shoulders.
She laughed, the cold air brushing against her cheeks, feeling alive and exhilarated.
She turned back to face her young groom, holding out her hand.
"Jason, hurry up! The wind is taking my hair!" she called out happily.
Jason stepped forward.
The loving warmth in his eyes vanished instantly, replaced by a cold, reptilian deadness.
He did not take her hand.
Instead, he planted both palms firmly against her chest and shoved with all his physical strength.
Eleanorās eyes widened in sheer, catastrophic disbelief.
She had no time to process the betrayal.
No time to scream.
One second she was looking into the eyes of the man she loved, and the next, she was falling backward into open air.
She vanished beneath the floorboards of the aircraft, plunging toward the ocean below.
Jason stood at the open threshold for several long seconds, leaning out slightly to watch her white dress shrink into the vast blue water.
A dark splash broke the surface miles off the coast, swallowed instantly by the rolling waves.
Jason slowly stepped back inside and slid the heavy door shut.
He adjusted his suit jacket, smoothed his tie, and sat down in the leather chair.
A calm, satisfied smile spread across his face.
The lonely old woman had given him everything he desired in less than ninety days.
Her heart, her trust, and her absolute fortune.

Jason believed he had executed the perfect crime.
He did not know that a secondary surveillance drone, deployed by Marcus Vance two miles away, had captured every single frame in high-definition video.
