Chapter 18 - THE HEIR NO ONE KNEW ABOUT|

The revelation shattered the fragile peace.
Aurelio explained that Salvatore had fathered a son before disappearing from the family. The child had been raised under another name, and the records had been hidden to prevent him from becoming a target.
The son was Dante Vescari.
Nora stared at Aurelio.
“But Vittorio raised him.”
“Yes. Vittorio agreed to raise the boy as his own after Salvatore was presumed dead. He believed the child deserved a chance at a life free from his father's crimes.”
Dante had already suspected that something was wrong. The DNA test had revealed no biological relationship between him and Nora, but it had not explained the discrepancy in his own records.
Now the truth was clear.
He was Salvatore's son.
The heir to the man who had threatened Nora, ordered the kidnapping of Isabella, and attempted to kill Dante at the terminal.
Dante received the news without speaking.
Then he asked for a copy of the original records.
He studied them for an hour before looking up.
“Did Vittorio know?”
Aurelio nodded.
“He told me years ago. We agreed never to tell you.”
“Because you thought ignorance was protection.”
Aurelio bowed his head.
“Yes.”
Dante stood and walked to the window.
“I spent my life believing my father taught me how to lead. Now I discover that the man who raised me concealed my identity, my uncle is a criminal, and the family name I inherited was built on secrets.”
Nora approached him.
“You are not responsible for what Salvatore did.”
“People will say I am.”
“Let them.”
He turned toward her.
“You make it sound simple.”
“It isn't. But you can decide what you do next.”
He looked at her for a long moment.
Then he laughed quietly.
“You sound like my father.”
“Which one?”
The question surprised them both.
Dante smiled for the first time in days.
“The one who raised me.”
The DNA results confirmed the truth. Salvatore was Dante's biological father, while Vittorio had raised him as his own son.
Dante chose not to hide the revelation. He released a statement acknowledging his family history and announcing that he would cooperate with the investigation into the Vescari criminal network.
He also began transferring legitimate businesses into independently audited structures, separating them from the companies used by Salvatore.
Some associates left. Others threatened him. A few promised loyalty only to betray him days later.
Dante accepted the consequences.
Nora watched him change—not into a perfect man, but into one who stopped using secrecy as an excuse.
One night, he found her sitting in the mansion's garden.
“Do you ever regret learning the truth?” he asked.
“Every day.”
“Then why keep going?”
“Because not knowing didn't make the past less painful. It only made me blame myself for things I couldn't understand.”
Dante sat beside her.
“I don't know what my future looks like.”
“Neither do I.”
He looked at her hand resting on the bench.
“Would you let me hold it anyway?”
She smiled faintly.
“Yes.”
Their fingers intertwined.
Then Marcus, now cooperating with investigators, sent a message.
Salvatore had escaped custody during a transfer.

And before disappearing, he had left one final threat.
THE VESCARI FAMILY WILL END WITH ITS HEIR.
