Chapter 3 - Shadows of the Past

Three weeks after the grand opening, an unexpected envelope arrived at Lucia’s legal firm in downtown Madrid. It bore no return address, only a postmark from a provincial prison outside the city. Inside was a hand-written letter from Javier, Mateo’s convicted son. Lucia sat at her mahogany desk, tracing the bitter lines of ink. Javier did not express remorse; instead, he accused Lucia of ruining his life and stealing his rightful inheritance. He warned her that a court order could not erase blood ties. Lucia folded the letter calmly, locked it inside her drawer, and vowed to protect Mateo from ever reading its poison.
