THE UNBROKEN BLOODLINE / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - The Unbroken LightTwo years after the assault.

The sun was setting over the Boston skyline, painting the Charles River in breathtaking hues of liquid amber, deep crimson, and soft violet.

A quiet evening calm settled over our Newton home.

In the sunlit upstairs nursery, two-year-old Leo and little cousin Maya were sleeping soundly in their cribs—two strong, healthy children whose laughter filled our lives with infinite light every single day.

I stood on the wide wooden balcony of our bedroom, holding a warm cup of tea. The cool spring breeze blew gently through the oak trees, carrying the sweet fragrance of night-blooming jasmine and damp earth.

Luke walked out onto the balcony behind me, wearing a comfortable sweater, wrapping his arms around my waist, pulling me close against his chest.

“What are you thinking about, sweetheart?” Luke asked softly, kissing my temple.

I turned around in his embrace, resting my hands comfortably over his chest, looking into his loving brown eyes.

“I’m thinking about that night at the dining table,” I answered truthfully, a soft, peaceful smile gracing my lips. “I’m thinking about how terrified I was when I saw the blood on my dress.”

Luke held me tighter, his fingers interlocking with mine. “That blood didn't mark the end of our story, Natalie. It was the moment we fought for our family and won.”

I looked out over the glowing horizon of the city below.

They had tried to strike my body in the dark. They had tried to erase my child’s future for cold, bitter greed and social status. But they had forgotten one fundamental, eternal truth: a mother’s love is an unshakeable seed—one that no blow can crush, no threat can silence, and no shadow can ever destroy.

I pressed my lips gently against Luke’s—a long, sweet kiss filled with healing, gratitude, and an infinite promise of a bright future together.

I held my husband’s hand tight, looked up at the twinkling stars above Boston, and walked forward into a life filled with endless light, absolute peace, and unbroken love.
