CHAPTER 2

The next morning, the house felt colder than ever.

Police officers carefully searched every corner of the kitchen.

One detail immediately caught their attention.

An industrial-strength cleaning bottle sat beneath the sink with its cap slightly loose.

“Who uses this?” one officer asked.

The woman wiped away her tears.

“I do... but I always keep it sealed. I never even took it out yesterday.”

The father folded his arms, confusion replacing his anger.

“Then how did it end up near his cup?”

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Noah slowly opened his eyes.

His voice was weak, but clear.

“Dad... I'm sorry.”

His father gently squeezed his hand.

“You have nothing to apologize for.”

Noah hesitated.

“I... I was thirsty. I couldn't find my juice... so I grabbed the blue cup.”

His father's heart pounded.

“Did she give it to you?” he asked carefully.

Noah slowly shook his head.

“No... she wasn't there. I think... I spilled something. It smelled strange, but I drank it anyway.”

The father's blood ran cold.

Back at the house, investigators uncovered an even more surprising discovery.

Traces of the same cleaning chemical were found on the kitchen countertop, likely left behind after an earlier cleaning.

The blue cup had been sitting exactly where the spill had happened.

It wasn't a trap.

It wasn't poison.

It was a terrible accident.

The father stood silently, staring at the evidence.

Everything he had believed only hours earlier suddenly began to fall apart.
