Chapter 8 - The Verdict

In October, the federal trial of Dominic Vance concluded in the United States District Court.
The prosecution presented over three hundred pages of forensic ledgers, wiretap audio recordings, and testimony from former accounting staff. Dominic sat at the defense table in a drab prison jumpsuit, his hair graying at the temples, his once-charismatic facade completely shattered.
The jury took less than four hours to reach a unanimous verdict: guilty on all eleven counts of wire fraud, securities manipulation, and corporate embezzlement.
Judge Harrison did not mince words during the sentencing hearing.
"Mr. Vance, you were given extraordinary opportunities and wealth, yet you chose to build your career on deception, betrayal, and the exploitation of the very person who supported you. Your actions represent the worst form of corporate and personal bad faith."

Dominic was sentenced to fourteen years in a federal penitentiary, along with an order of full restitution totaling twenty-two million dollars.
When the gavel struck the block, Dominic looked across the courtroom gallery. I was sitting in the second row, dressed in a navy blazer. When our eyes met, there was no anger left in my heart—only the quiet, unshakeable peace of a woman who had reclaimed her life, her name, and her dignity.
